Many people just play European roulette for fun, but if you want a greater chance of winning, you should make sure to study the game in depth. Even though there is no guaranteed method for how to beat European roulette, we can give you a few tricks to put up your sleeve.

The payout with this bet will be 35 to 1. European roulette will give you a winning percentage chance of 2.7% and 2.63% in American roulette. It is also known as a single-number bet. Street – With a street bet, you are betting on a row of three numbers. If you win, you can get a payout of 11 to 1. Accompanying the roulette wheel is a betting table, on which players can place their chips. The colors of each numbered section correspond with the colored pockets of the roulette wheel. The table’s layout allows players to place chips on individual numbers or on group bets. In European roulette, players can place inside and outside bets.

The European roulette wheel has 37 pockets, which are numbered from 0 to 36. The 0 pocket is green in color, while the other numbers alternate between red and black.

The primary difference between the European and American roulette wheel is that the American version also includes a double 0 pocket.

Because the European roulette wheel only has a single zero, the house edge is decreased to only 2.7%, whereas the American version’s house edge is 5.26%. This means that the European roulette RTP (Return to Player) is 97.3%. The European roulette odds of winning are higher than the American variety, so this is why many players prefer playing European roulette. In fact, many experienced gamblers only play the American version if it is the only option. This article will focus on the strategy of European Roulette. Accompanying the roulette wheel is a betting table, on which players can place their chips. The colors of each numbered section correspond with the colored pockets of the roulette wheel.

The table’s layout allows players to place chips on individual numbers or on group bets. In European roulette, players can place inside and outside bets. The inside bets correspond with individual numbers, adjacent numbers, or small groups of numbers. On the other hand, outside bets let players wager on evens, odds, colors, and larger groups of numbers. Most bets have different odds of being successful and, therefore, have different payouts.

The Basic European Roulette Rules

The main objective of all roulette versions, not just the European roulette system, is for the player to bet on which pocket the roulette ball will end up in. Some people like to play European roulette online, while others prefer to play it at land-based casinos. The process of placing European roulette bets is slightly different depending on the version of the game.

Modern casinos often use “rapid roulette,” which is where a physical roulette wheel is surrounded by betting terminals. Players can place their bets electronically, and 20+ players can play simultaneously. In a more traditional casino, 1-8 people will be seated at a roulette table. There will also be a dealer, also known as a croupier, who stands behind the table. Sometimes, there may be up to four casino employees at one table. Two of them would be croupiers who deal with the bets and spin the ball into the wheel. The other two employees would be game supervisors who make sure that everything is going smoothly.

A croupier will tell players to place their bets. In a traditional setting, players will place their chips on the betting table. They could choose to bet on just one number or on multiple numbers. The croupier will then spin the ball in one direction and the wheel in the other direction. During the ball’s rotation, when it has about two or three more revolutions left before settling in a pocket, the croupier will close the betting window. If any player places a chip on the betting table after this point, it will be disregarded. The ball will eventually settle into a pocket, and the croupier will identify the winning number. Lost bets are given to the house while winning bets are paid out to players.

If a player is using an online casino to play European roulette, the gaming process is even simpler. All the player has to do is place their chips on their desired number and click on the “Spin” button. After the betting round has completed, the player must choose whether to place another wager or to leave the game. Some online casinos use live dealers for their roulette games.

Types of European Roulette Bets

As mentioned before, players can place an inside bet or an outside bet. One type of inside bet is the Straight-Up Bet, in which the player places a chip on any single number. This bet’s payout is 35 to 1.

Another type of inside bet is a Split Bet, in which a player places a chip on the line between two adjacent numbers. 0 is considered to be adjacent to 1, 2, and 3. The Split Bet’s payout is 17 to 1.

Next, we have the Street Bet, which is when a player puts a chip on the line at the end of a row. This means that they are betting on all three numbers within the row. Players could also bet on 0, 1, 2 or on 0, 2, 3. A Street Bet has a payout of 11 to 1.

If a player makes a Corner Bet, this means that they are wagering on a group of four numbers. They can place a chip on the corner where the four numbers touch. Alternatively, the player could place a Street Bet on 0, 1, 2, and 3, even though 1 and 3 don’t touch. This kind of bet has a payout of 8 to 1.

A Line Bet covers six numbers, which are in two rows of three numbers. The player puts their chip on the end of two rows on the border in between said rows. A winning payout for a Line Bet is 5 to 1.

What

Now, let’s look at the types of outside bets. If a player puts a chip on a 2:1 box at the end of the betting table, they are betting on all of the numbers within that column. This kind of bet is called a Column Bet and has a payout of 2 to 1.

The Dozen Bet entails a player placing their chip on the 1st 12, 2nd 12, or 3rd 12 box on the side of the betting table. The 1st 12 box covers the numbers 1-12, while the 2nd 12 covers 13-24, and the 3rd 12 covers 25-36. The Dozen Bet has a payout of 2 to 1.

A player could also place a Bet on Color, which means they place a chip on either the red box or the black box on the side of the betting table. If the chip is placed on the red box, then the player is betting on all red numbers. Similarly, by placing a chip on the black box, the player is betting on all black numbers. The Bet on Color’s payout is 1 to 1.

The next kind of outside bet is the Bet on Odd/Even. The player will place a chip on the even box, which covers all of the wheel’s even numbers, or the odd box, which covers all the odd numbers. This bet has a payout of 1 to 1.

A player could also choose to make a Bet on Low/High, which has a payout of 1 to 1. To place this kind of bet, the player would put their chip on the 1 to 18 box or the 19 to 36 box. However, if the winning number ends up being zero, the “en prison” rule will apply. There are four variations of the rule, but it generally means that the player will either receive half of his bet or the entire wager will be imprisoned. If the imprisoned bet wins during the next spin, it will be released. Then, the player will recover the chip without any additional earnings. If the second wheel spin also has the ball land on zero, then it is really up to the location of the casino, as there are several different outcomes.

European Roulette Strategies

You may be wondering what kind of European roulette tricks you can learn to increase your chances of winning. There is no catchall method for how to win at European roulette. However, you can read up on some of the most efficient European roulette strategies to take advantage of every bet you place.

You may want to take a look at some of the most popular roulette strategy systems, such as the Martingale system.

The Martingale betting system is a pretty simple concept. Players should increase their bets after each loss so that, after the losing streak is finally broken, they will get their money back and start at ground zero. Over time, your baseline will grow by small amounts so that you should hopefully walk away with more than what you started with. Essentially, players who use this system are betting big to win small.

Roulette

The most effective way to use the Martingale betting system is to place outside bets, such as Even/Odd, Red/Black, and Low/High. These are the safest bets one can place because they have the maximum odds of winning. However, the bets also have the lowest payouts.

When using the Martingale strategy, the player starts with a small wager. This amount should preferably be the table minimum. The player will continue placing the same size wager until they lose. If the player loses, then they will double their bet. With a win, the player will once more bet the smallest amount possible.

Here is an example of an even-money bet progression:

1-2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256-512-1024-2048-4096-8192

Keep in mind, because of the house edge, the casino will always end up winning eventually. However, you can use this betting strategy to bring home small winnings in the short-term.

Let’s say that progressive roulette strategies aren’t your thing. Well, maybe you would be interested in the James Bond strategy. This is a flat betting system, which means that players wager the same amount during every round.

In the Casino Royale book, James Bond would place the following wagers for each spin:

  • 14 pounds on the High (1936) box
  • 5 pounds on a Line Bet for 13 through 18
  • 1 pound on 0

Bond would wager £20 per spin, but players can choose to try it with £200 or even £2000 per spin. They should just make sure to keep the proportions equivalent.

If a player copies Bond’s betting array, there will be 25 numbers in which the player could win and 12 in which they could lose. If the ball lands in 19-36, the player wins £8. If it lands from 13-18, they will win £10. If the ball hits 0, the player gets £16, and if it hits 1-12, then they would lose £20.

Even though the James Bond system cannot eliminate the house edge, it can still help you obtain winnings in the short run.

If you're thinking of playing roulette online, however big or small the stakes, you'll need to get up to speed on how roulette betting works. Blindly putting wagers down without having a grasp of the basics can lead to a serious dent in your bankroll. Learn which bets offer the best odds to win and have the highest payouts at any Canadian online casino.

Your Main Bet Options

Roulette bets are divided into two main types: inside or outside. While each offers different odds and payouts, both are subject to the same house edge. American roulette tables have a 5.26% edge and European tables offer a 2.70% edge. Even-money bets placed at European tables with French rules are only subject to a 1.35% house edge.

Inside Roulette Bets

These are the bet spaces located inside the table. Although the inside bets might have higher payouts, they are much less likely to win on any given spin. That said, there's nothing that matches the thrill of hitting a single number for a 35/1 payday!

A Closer Look at Roulette Bets

Inside Bets

The inside bets in roulette are, quite simply, found on the 'inside' of the table. They offer the lowest chance to win and the highest payouts. The different types of inside bets are explained below.

Straight Up

WHAT IS IT?

The straight up bet is one of the simplest wagers you can make in roulette. These are bets on what the number of the very next spin will be.You can either place bets on multiple single numbers at a time or combine them with outside bets.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Hitting a single number is obviously pretty hard with only a 2.63% – 2.70% chance to win. However, when you win with a straight up bet, you can take advantage of the game's highest payout: 35/1. In other words, for a straight up bet of 1 chip, you would receive 35 chips plus your original chip back on a win.

Split

WHAT IS IT?

The split bet is a double straight up bet. You just have to put your chip stack between the two numbers you want to bet on. If either number is shown, you win.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Split bets have the second highest pay out: 17/1. There is only a 5.26% – 5.40% chance that this type of inside bet will win each spin.

Street/Row

WHAT IS IT?

Taking inside bets to the next level, the street bet allows you to bet on a row of three numbers. Put your chips on the far line of a row, and you'll have marked this bet. See the top row of our sample layout.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Now we start to see just a little bit of action as this kind of bet wins 7.89% – 8.11% of the time. It pays out 11/1.

Trio

WHAT IS IT?

This bet also covers three numbers at a time when chips are placed at intersections connecting numbers on the table.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Like the street bet, the trio also has the potential to win 7.89% – 8.11% of the time and pays out 11/1.

Corner/Quad

WHAT IS IT?

To make a corner bet, put your chip stack at the intersection (or corner) where four numbers meet on the layout.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

This type of bet offers a 10.53% – 10.81% chance to win with an 8/1 payout. So, if you bet 1 chip on a corner bet space and the next spin results in a win, then you will receive 8 chips plus your original chip back.

'Many casual gamblers think roulette betting is rather black and red, but nothing could be further from the truth. From inside to outside bets, straights and corners, streets and splits, online roulette has an abundance of betting options.'

Double Street

WHAT IS IT?

The double street is just what its name implies - a bet on two 'streets' or rows. You place chips on the far side directly between the two numbers at the end of their respective streets.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Covering six numbers under a single wager gives a double street bet the odds to win of about 15.78% – 16.22% of the time. It pays out 5/1.

What is a street bet in roulette sites

Basket / First Five

WHAT IS IT?

The basket bet is a wager on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Since it relies on the 00 pocket, it can only be used with American wheels.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

TThis bet has a 13.16% – 13.51% chance to win and pays out 6/1. However, with a house edge of 7.89%, it sticks out like a sore thumb as the single worst bet in roulette.

Outside Bets

Unlike inside bets, o, outside bets cover larger portions of the wheel. This is where you will find even-money bets which pay the lowest but give the highest chance to win. The next highest chance bets include columns and dozens. Both cover about a third of the numbers and payout 2/1.

Even / Odd

WHAT IS IT?

These bets are very simple to make. Just look for the spaces on the layout labeled 'Even' and 'Odd.' Put your chip stack on whichever space you'd like, sit back and watch the wheel spin. There, told you it was easy, didn't we?

Put your chip stack on whichever space you'd like, sit back, and relax. This bet has the standard 5.26 percent house edge.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Because nearly half of the numbers are even and nearly half are odd, one of the bet spaces is going to win almost every spin. 0 and 00 aren't included in this bet giving the casino its edge. So, this type of bet has a 47.37% – 48.65% chance to win but only pays out 1/1.

Red or Black

WHAT IS IT?

This bet is also an even-money wager that covers eighteen numbers at once. Placing a stack on red will cover all the red pockets on the wheel. Placing a stack on black will cover all black pockets. 0 and 00 are green and give the house its edge.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Since most pockets are either red or black, , one of these spaces will win most of the time. Each bet has a 47.37% – 48.65% chance of winning and pays 1/1.

Betting on red or black is one of the most basic roulette bets making it perfect for beginners. Below, you can see what color each numbered pocket is.

High 18

WHAT IS IT?

If you bet on high 18, you are wagering that the following spin will result in a pocket numbered 19-36.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Like any even-money bet, the chances of winning are the best of any other bet option, and the payout is the lowest at 1/1. This is another great choice for new Canada players taking online roulette for a spin.

Low 18

WHAT IS IT?

As the name suggests, low 18 is the opposite of high 18. It wins when the ball lands in a pocket numbered 1-18.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

RouletteWhat Is A Street Bet In Roulette

Because this covers nearly half of the wheel-head,it will win around half of the time and pay out 1/1.

Column

WHAT IS IT?

What Is A Street Bet In Roulette

The column bet is like the street bet, but it covers twelve numbers in a column instead of three in a row. There are three columns to choose from. Have a look at the numbers each choice covers below.

Column 1147101316192225283134
Column 2258111417202326293235
Column 3369121518212427303336

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Betting on a column covers nearly one-third of the wheel for a 31.58% – 32.43% chance to win and pay out of 2/1. Since it should win around once every three spins, this outside bet offers much less risk than any of the inside bets.

Dozens

WHAT IS IT?

The dozens bet, as the name implies, lets you bet on twelve numbers at a time. However, instead of betting on numbers that lie in the same column on the table, you bet on a dozen numbers in sequential order.

These numbers are broken up into three separate dozens:

First Dozen1-12
Second Dozen13-24
Third Dozen25-36
